OR&N 197 and Great Northern in the Roundhouse

Subject: Old Trains - a Major Update

The Linhof Super Technika III I used for the first two trips to the Brooklyn Roundhouse had a mis-aligned ground glass. The following images are from my third trip to visit these great beasts. This page is of SP4449 and SPS700. The second page contains Doyle's great looking Great Northern and the OR&N 197 project.

    4449 leaving Hillsboro Station
One cold evening I dashed over to Hillsboro Station just in time to catch this magnificent beast as she was rolling away.

Spokane, Portland, Seattle 700. I read somewhere that this is the third largest locomotive of it's type still in operation.

It was raining off and on all morning. SPS700 had been pushed out to be moved onto another set of tracks to make way for a returning SP4449. The wee-tender was having difficulty making it's way into the Roundhouse. So, after one try, the crew all went outside and started to push! the locomotive into the barn. Look closely, you'll just make out two figures putting their backs into it. Amazing.
