The US Government has agreed to pay the surviving Randy Weaver family members over $3 million in civil damages for the government murders of Weaver's wife and oldest son by FBI snipers. For the first time in the agency's 87 year history, 5 FBI agents refused to testify before Congress about their involvement in the murders under 5th Amendment protection, claiming their testimony would tend to incriminate them in the wrongful deaths of innocent civilians. The FBI official who ordered the murders was subsequently rewarded with a promotion by President Clinton and Attorney General Reno.
