Nancy L. Block, 1945-2007
Our daughter, Nancy Lorraine Block of Tigard died of natural causes Sunday, March 24, 2007. She was born Jan. 19, 1945, in San Francisco to Isabelle and Morton Block. She grew up with two brothers, Gordon and Kevin, and one sister, Alison, and attended Carlmont High School, San Carlos, Calif., Fresno State College and San Jose State College. Nancy worked for Sun Microsystems and lived in Menlo Park, Calif., prior to her retirement to Oregon. She was formerly married to Christopher Prael. Nancy lived in Beaverton and Philomath before moving to Tigard. Nancy was a fine artist in glass and ceramics, a long time member of Mensa, and was extremely active in the Diabetes Association and breast cancer societies. She was a voracious reader. Books were her life, along with her three cats.
Kenneth D. Gould, 79
Long time Intertel member Ken Gould passed away 6/3/07. Survivors: daughter, Deborah Nason of Guilford, Connecticut. Predeacesed by son, Andrew M. Gould of Garfield, NJ. Native of Brooklyn, lived in Closter, NJ from 1969 to 1981; in Linwood Park in Ft. Lee from 1981 to 2004; in the Actors Fund home in Englewood from 2004 to 2007. Attended Penn State, joined ballet company (the "Original Ballet Russe") at age 20. Toured Europe with the ballet company for several years. Followed that by a number of years in other show business venues - toured the U.S. in summer stock shows, founded his own dance company. In late 1950s became a buyer of women's better sportswear for department stores such as A & S. In 1970s founded own womens clothing boutiques called "The Picket Fence" in Closter and Oakland. He was a founding member of a merchant's association in Closter and founded a national social group called "Prime Timers." Tireless civic volunteer, he was active in many, many organizations such as NJ Buddies (a large AIDS support group), Englewood Hispanic Association, NY/NJ Mensa, Intertel , and reading for the blind. In the 1980s, he did some ground-breaking volunteer with the UN through the Mensa International Friends of the Disabled. He loved helping others and had many friends from all walks of life.
